Biography

Tommy Fuller is an upright and electric bass player from Yorkshire, currently based in Basel, Switzerland. After graduating with a First-Class degree from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2019—where he was awarded the Conservatoire Jazz Award for his cohort—he moved to Switzerland to study with renowned bassist Larry Grenadier at the Jazzcampus Basel.

Initially influenced by the music of Jaco Pastorius, he later developed a deeper interest in jazz through bassists such as Wilbur Ware, Sam Jones, and Larry Gales.

As a main artistic contributor to several contemporary music groups, he performs regularly on the jazz and contemporary music scenes. He is also an active session musician, working with a wide range of artists. This includes touring with Canadian blues guitarist Cliff Stevens on his “Better Days” European tour, performing with UK folk supergroup “A Winter Union” on their annual theatre tours, and making regular appearances with contemporary pop and jazz acts across the Swiss, German, and UK music scenes.

Notable performances include supporting Simply Red on their 2016 European tour, performing the music of Santana with Alex Ligertwood in 2023, and appearing with the 2025 “Old and New Themes” ensemble featuring Jeff Ballard.

Now based in Basel, he is active as both a performer and educator within the Swiss and European jazz scene, collaborating with musicians across a range of styles spanning jazz, contemporary, and popular music. He is equally at home on both upright and electric bass.
